Thomas C. Virostek, CFP®, AIF®

Lead Portfolio Advisor

As principal of Q3 Capital Management, Tom is an Investment Adviser Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®, our independent broker/dealer. Tom has a fiduciary role in helping clients make sound investment decisions, balancing identifiable risks with feasible returns. He founded Q3 Capital Management in August 2009 after managing the Western Pennsylvania offices of a large national broker/dealer for 14 years. His focus has been specializing in portfolio management and investment research. Historically working with corporate clients and high-net-worth families, he has come to believe that managing portfolios is a constant, fluid process because new market risks and opportunities are constantly evolving, and it is imperative that they be recognized and quantified in a timely manner. Our technical-analysis-based process isn't a discipline that is limited to Q3 Capital Management, LLC, but it is also not widely available amongst our competitors.

As a former CPA, numbers are no stranger to Tom. He likes the discipline of mathematics as it relates to the markets. Besides the noise that the news channels generate every day, the economic statistics can also be daunting to the untrained eye.  News can be misinterpreted, or worse, misrepresented; and sometimes there’s an interrelationship in economic statistics. With more than 30 years in the business, a disciplined process helps Tom and the deep bench from Commonwealth Financial Network Research Team consistently develop sound strategies for when the market trend makes an abrupt turn. In addition to his accounting background, he holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designations.

Tom graduated with a degree in accounting/business administration from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1986, where he also raced on the ski team.  “Being from Western Pennsylvania, nobody thought I could compete in the Rocky Mountain region,” he said, but with a single win in the slalom, he answered even his own doubts. “It was an ideal environment for me, where the demands of the accounting curriculum, along with college athletics, was the perfect balance for me, where my growth was mental and physical. I really honed my time management skills then, which has served me well in this business. Leeds prepared me to sit for the CPA exam three months after graduation.”

With his wife, two boys, and two girls, you could say that balance and time management are essential. “Like many families, we are vested completely in our children.” When the demands of juggling schedules are stretched, Leo, the family Labrador retriever, helps us all keep things in perspective.

Tom still enjoys skiing, albeit at a more leisurely pace these days. "Skiing has been an important part of our family time over the years. It's the kind of activity that we can do as a family, while exploring new places and experiences together.  I realize that we are fortunate to be able to do that, and my hope is that someday my children will have a growing appreciation of that time and the lessons they've learned along the way".

People would be surprised to know that:

  • He holds a patent for an adjustable ski pole basket, which has been developed into a product.
  • Tom's great, great-grandfather led the movement to set aside land (larger than the state of Delaware) in Canada known today as Algonquin Provincial Park.

She is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her BA in physics and minor in mathematics. While numbers have always been a passion of Charlotte’s, her several years in retail customer service has left her with a deep-rooted desire to understand the problems of others and come up with the most effective solutions possible. Having been a member of the Physics Club in college, she still enjoys tutoring in math and science-related courses in her spare time.
